The Arbor

When we designed this house we made sure we built a detached garage.  Our previous house had a garage under the house which we didn't like; every time the garage door opened and closed you could hear it, and, once while my husband was warming up the car during the winter, our carbon monoxide unit went off. So, we determined our next house would not have an attached garage.

When we finished the house and the garage, something seemed off balanced between the two. We stood down in the cul de sac and studied the aesthetics trying to determine how to bring the two into balance.  After going back to the drawing we had submitted to the developer we found we had added an arbor.  It wasn't between the house and garage but had been added to create interest in another area.  Why not use it to fill the space between the house and garage? After all, it had already been approved. It was the best decision and balanced the area beautifully.  Once it was finished we  planted wisteria to cover it.  I know wisteria can destroy a structure so we used a miniature version.

This year the wisteria bloomed profusely and when you walk beneath the arbor the fragrance is intoxicating!   I love the delicate blooms and foliage.  The past few autumns this variety has budded but not bloomed.  I hope it will bloom is fall.

The pathway to the side door is covered with spent blooms.

Till next time

Oh that is so beautiful!
I just love the wisteria!
You must live somewhere warmer because around here, everyone wants an attached garage because our winters are so long and cold.
Thanks for sharing this too,
Cindy

So beautiful Willa! Love it...the wisteria and arbor definitely 'soften' the space.
