Squeeeeeak....Slam

I love screen doors; there is something about them that is nostalgic.  I think most homes, in the era I grew up in, had screen doors.  I can still hear the squeeeeak, slam of a screen door in my childhood memory.  Remember the eye-hook lock that was sure to keep any potential robber at bay.  Of course who worried about that in the "good ol' days"? Our screen door saw a lot of squeak-slam from the 6 kids that were in my family.  After a few of these "headache giving" slams my mom would say "stay in or stay out" and if we kept running in and out she would send us all out and lock the door behind us.  The screen had to be replaced a few time with six kids pushing on the screen rather than the wood or running through the screen.

I took the photo of this lovely screen door while I was out taking photos for my post on "My Town".  This little house was hidden in an alcove between 2 larger historical buildings.  It is such a quaint little place I couldn't help but stop and admire it and of course take a photo.

Till Next Time

If that screen door could tell us it's tales. I love things with a history just for the connection that other people have had with an object. It's a wonderful photo. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Lovely photo Willa and thanks for sharing your story as it brought back memories of my childhood too. The famous "stay in or out" saying was well used too. I'd much rather have an old wood framed screen door any day......if it wouldn't look so out of place on our home.
Blessings,
Sheila

We had three different doors going out of our home back in New England, when our children were growing up. You have brought back so many memories. I can hear the swinging of the screen doors and the children's voices as you remind us. Blessings~Sara

I grew up with screen doors too. We have 2 screen doors in our home and I've mentioned "taking the squeeeeek out", but my husband refuses to hear of it. He likes the squeek he says, it makes him think of his childhood.

LOL..funny you should post about Screen doors..My SNL & I just had a conversation about old screen doors today as we decorated the walk around porch. She decided that she is getting rid of the metal screen door and putting up the old fashioned screen door... Why...the squeek, slam and simplicity of replacing them once thekids wear them out...
I love old screen doors & have always had them on as many of my doors as possible!

Great Post...Thanks..
