Challenges

How would you define challenge?  Webster dictionary defines it as " An invitation to engage in a contest or controversy of any kind; a defiance; specifically, a summons to fight a duel; also, the letter or message conveying the summons". Change usually seems to be a challenge for  me.  I could agree with Mr. Webster that change is "a summons to fight a duel".  I know during Mr. Webster’s day a duel meant 2 people, 2 pistols and 10 paces.  But a "summons to fight a duel" in my life of dealing with change means that one of us is going to win and the other is not;  either me or the change that is demanding to be dealt with. Will I let change defeat me or will I conquer it?  Where is all this coming from?  Well, have you noticed all the change that is taking place just on the WWW lately, for starters?  Face book, Google, Etsy, Blogger, yahoo, and a host of other Internet venues?  While I was MIA from Blogger, it changed....here be the summons to fight a duel. It seemed that the old format was no longer working or not working very well so I felt forced to try the new interface....so clever of them to do it this way, it actually felt like the message conveying the summons (as stated in Mr. Webster’s definition).  The challenge is set, the gauntlet thrown down. Whew....game on (in our modern vernacular).  I accepted the challenge, and pressed the button for the new interface.  I can't say it takes me forever to learn something new, I'm usually a pretty quick study, I learn by doing, being hands on. So, I started a new blog where I could “practice”.  Honestly, I don’t know what I am doing when it comes to adding new graphics and changing things around on my blog.  I know it comes easy to most people, but not this people.  I once upon a time had my son change the graphics on my blog but it would take him a while to get to it ( and now he's even busier than before). Today I spent most of the day working to change the graphics, it was trial and error (mostly error of course), and after a while I finally figured out "mostly" how to do this stuff.  And I must admit the interface is much easier to work with....hmmm, I think I like it.
What is it with us that resists change when most of the time change is good?  We grow accustomed to doing things a certain way and then our small world crashes when that way changes.   We may as well accept it...things will change.

There are some changes that I really enjoy; for instance,

how summer changes into Fall.

Or how winter changes into spring.

how gray hair changes when you dye it

how the color of the sky changes with the sunset or sunrise.

how night changes to day.

how the air changes after a thunderstorm

how a sad face changes when it smiles

how a baby changes to a toddler

how a teenager changes to a young adult and

how a young bride changes to a young mother

how practice changes to perfect

how difficulty changes with know-how

how Christ changes me when my way gives way to His.

What about you?  What changes do you enjoy?

Til next time

Thank you, Willa, I find change very difficult also. I am using the new Blogger Interface and I like it. I struggle sometimes (well, alot of times) with adding things to my blog. They make it pretty easy copying and pasting, but like to change my blog header to make it centered, I still can't do it. I'm afraid to go in and mess with the template html for fear of deleting the whole blog. I've backed up the blog but still...
I don't go on Facebook, Twitter, etc., I feel that we are really putting our selves out there too much sometimes. The internet is a wonderful thing, but it's too much sometimes. Your list of what you like for changes consists of beautiful things in life, the things that life is all about. Thank you.
Warm Regards,
Susan

Oh Willa - there are changes that are beautiful - the changing of the leaves, of the seasons, of frustration to accomplishment - and all those wonderful (and some scary) changes you mention....but I, sadly and sorely, don't adapt too easily to changes - unless they're on my terms....something I'm working on and praying on...Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Beautiful thought provoking post~

I'm generally not good with change but one change I'm loving has come to me while growing older.

I'm wiser.

A lot wiser!

I can now say with great clarity (and without guilt) something I struggled to say for years...

"NO!"

Nothing better than being real within one's own skin~
