Bon Fire Thyme.

Last week I posted about building a bonfire and the fun time my Sweetie and I had with our grandkids. We had so much fun, we decided to make it a Friday night event until it's too cold. Or maybe we will take our cozy wraps out or let the fire keep us nice and toasty into Nov.

I wanted to share a few photos with you of our last bonfire. We decided to put the "fire-pit" down in the wooded area. It's dark there so we strung up some lights to light our path. We continued the lights over the table, which was a big help; without them we could barely see to put stuff on our plates. The lights also added a festive touch to our gathering.

This is Courtnee, our granddaughter, doing a "Vanna style" reveal of the lights. She's also the one I talked about in "the found a peanut" story.

The main course.....hot dogs cooked in the fire. And no hotdog roast is complete without the smores! I found some pumpkin shaped marshmallows at walmart. I almost passed them by because I thought they were pumpkin flavored. While I love pumpkin flavored stuff I simply couldn’t imagine a pumpkin flavored smore; they were a hit with the kids.

No photo for this but "papa" made smoke signals with the fire. I was entertaining the grandkids with tales of the woodland fairies sending up messages in the smoke. "we have some crazies in the neighborhood" one message read. "4 children and 4 adults" another read. Messages also stated the names of the children and adults. The GKs were so excited that the fairies knew their names. Messsges continued to say how much fun we were having and how friendly we seemed. The fairies wanted to be our friends.

With all the fun we were having the one thing the kids enjoyed the most was....ooooh, should I tell you???? Ok....one of the kids needed to go to the bathroom so "papa" told her to go down the path a little way and go behind one of the trees. No qualms and no questions asked, she headed down the path and slipped behind a tree. A few mins later she came back. When the other kids saw that she had not been eaten by a bear or other night creature, they all wanted their turn. We had a bucket of water handy, and after each of their trips, they washed their hands and settled in for more "fairy messages". I can imagine their tall tales at school on Monday.

This is Alex, his chocolate grin through out the evening, made my night.  Everytime I looked over at him, he had a big chocolate smile.  I lined the kids up, at one point, and shined the light on them,individually.  I then interrogated them like in the old movies; "where were you on the night of  Monday, Oct 10th"? I continued to ask them silly questions to which they gave silly answers.  They got the biggest kick out of it.
